Commemorating the First Edition of the RICE Way Newsletter

Campus

Rice University’s Office of Ethics, Compliance and Enterprise Risk (OECE) is pleased to publish its first issue of the RICE Way Newsletter. In this newsletter, you will find more information about the OECE, including information on policy management and administration and the anonymous EthicsPoint reporting line, a summary of best practices for international research collaboration, a spotlight on ethics and compliance partner Dr. Richard Baker, Executive Director for Institutional Equity and EEO, University Title IX Coordinator, and information regarding the Youth Protection Program at Rice.

The OECE was founded in 2015 to promote a culture of compliance and ethical behavior among all the members of the Rice community in carrying out its mission with integrity and in accordance with our legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities.

The office is responsible for promoting communication, coordination, and collaboration regarding compliance and enterprise risk management services and activities throughout Rice. The OECE also regularly provides reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees on compliance and enterprise risk management program activities.

The OECE promotes adherence to current Rice policies, facilitates the updating of older policies, and assists departments and policyholders in the creation of new policies. With over 120 policies to administratively manage across over 40 compliance risk areas, the OECE plays a critical role in fostering the university’s values of Responsibility, Integrity, Community, and Excellence as embodied in Rice's Standards of Ethical Conduct.
